A few years ago I walked into a car dealership to buy a new car... It was just after I started working as a pharmaceutical rep, so pre-kids, and I already had a pretty good idea of what I wanted. I was going to spend about six hours a day in this car, and I had a good salary that meant I could afford a decent one. So I did my homework and narrowed my choices down to three different models. Emil, my husband, said he wanted to come with me. And I was either too young or too naive to see that there could possibly be a problem with taking my wonderful, supportive husband car shopping with me... Oh, was I about to learn a valuable lesson. We walked into the first dealership and over to the model I wanted to test drive. After about five minutes, a young guy comes over and asks if we need any help. So far so good, right? I tell him I’ve just started a new job, I’m looking to buy a new car, and I’d love to learn more about this particular model and maybe take it for a test drive. You know what he did?! He turns to Emil... And starts telling Emil about the features of the car I had just told him I wanted to buy. He turned to Emil... And talked to him. WT actual F?!! I wish that was my only awful car-buying experience, but honestly, it wasn’t even my only one that day. Now, I know this is an extreme example of a salesperson not listening to the buyer. Heck, he wasn’t even acknowledging the actual buyer. But sometimes, we all do a version of this in our marketing and sales. Not because we want to be d*cks. Just because we forget that the thing we are selling and the thing someone wants to buy are not necessarily the same thing. We get so caught up in what we can offer the world (and we should) that we forget something really important: Nobody buys something they don’t WANT first. And right now, you could already be sitting on the key to finding out what your audience really, really wants. You just need a little help unlocking it. That’s why I want to show you how to take things like sales call transcripts or survey responses, upload them to AI, and uncover the clues that can make your audience far more excited to buy the next time you make an offer. So that you can sell more of your awesome pragrams… without the car-salesman ick! 💚💚💚 |
